Epthianura tricolor
Morning greeted our remote campsite in the Mulga with the sound of Chiming Wedgebills calling. Hoping to see and photograph this species, we closed in on their song but we'd disturbed them and it went quiet. We could wait. They might return.
In the meantime, this Crimson Chat and its mate hung around us at unusually close quarters. Thinking we may be threatening a non-visible nearby nest, we relocated ourselves to a different vantage point but the chats followed, seemingly happy to keep an eye on these strange human animals in their neighbourhood.
The Chiming Wedgebills became active nearby again and we were able to watch and photograph them, and of course we couldn't resist the delightful and spectacular little chat either.
